Le Gouessant and Friend Of the Sea
Facing this reality and convinced that improving the sustainability of aquafeeds is a major issue, LE GOUESSANT has launched the PAD program that takes into account the origin of the marine resources used in the fish feeds.
Le Gouessant and Friend of the Sea share the same vision for mixed approach of progress and realism.
Based in San Francisco and established in 2006, Friend of the Sea (FOS) is a non governmental agency promoted by the Earth Island Institute.
FOS created in particular the Dolphin Safe label in order to narrow down the catches of cetaceans in the case of tuna fisheries. Friend of the Sea has the advantage to have a global view on aquatic products as it is the only one to certify both fishery and aquaculture products. The FOS “aquaculture products” label includes all the specifications of a farm through 13 criteria ranked according to 3 levels of importance : essential, important, recommended

The feed section of Friend of the Sea pays particular attention to the origin of the marine resources. FOS requires that those products come from fish processing industry by-products or from fishing zones certified by FOS : case of the menhaden from the Gulf of Mexico or the sardine of Morocco.
LE GOUESSANT Aquaculture got in november 2008, the certification for 2 products from the PAD program : B-NATURE and PAD 19.
B-NATURE is an organic feed for bass & bream production and salmonids.
PAD 19 is the first feed designed for trout farming.
Some other products will soon be launched.
